On reaching Angry Journalist #5000

First, I want to thank everyone here that has contributed to the site. It’s been all you and your words. Without your comments the site wouldn’t be a place that has many of you coming back each day.

Also, a huge thanks to everyone who has shared the link and spread the word. I started this site with a post on my blog, a Facebook note and a quick Twitter link. From there, it grew to 164,931 unique visitors and 327,821 page loads — at least that’s according to StatCounter. The site has far exceeded all my original expectations.

But, quite frankly, this shouldn’t be a celebration.

The only reason why the site has grown is because of the serious problems that exist in the journalism industry. Not just in the United States, but abroad as well. I don’t believe the complaints voiced here are the exception, but rather the norm.

Unfortunately, no one has a cure-all solution to the problems this site documents. And, to my knowledge, no one in a position of power to actually change the course of journalism and heal its growing wounds has done so — yet.

While I don’t believe that there’s much more that I can offer to help angry journalists other than to provide a place to vent, I will be introducing some new features to aid in your venting. I have a to-do list of site tweeks to introduce and another section to add that will hopefully be of help to some of you.

Thanks again for your continued support,

Kiyoshi Martinez
